Sir C. Cox asked whether it was proposed that the Members of the Executive
Council should see the Secretary of State by themselves or whether other
members should also attend. It was considered that if the Secretary of
State could find time for such a meeting, .Sir C. Cox and Mr. Adams should
also attend and that as Colonel Ride was returning to Hong Kong on Friday
the 20th July, Mr. Sloss, the late Vice Chancellor, might be invited to
represent the University. Colonel Ride would either brief Sir Man Kam Lo
Colonel Ride and
or Sir A. Morse, or prepare a memorandum showing what the effect would be
on the activities of the University if they had to be curtailed as a result
of the inability to find money for an endowment fund.
Mr. Adams would also prepare a statement to show how fees charged by the
Hong Kong University compared with those charged by other universities.
Mr. Sidebotham then closed the meeting by saying that he would
try and find out as soon as possible whether it would be convenient for
the Secretary of State to hold a meeting to discuss this problem.
